Post subject:  engine possibilities

Ok guys, so I bought my 86 monte ss about a year and half ago and I'm trying to figure out which way will be the best way for me to go power wise. Going on a basic bang for your buck type principle what do you guys think would be better, doing a motor swap or just slowly building up my stock motor. It's a 305 h.o motor with only 55,000 miles on it and it's pretty solid. Any suggestions would be appreciated I plan on having the car for a long time and down the road I can always do more but I was wondering how realistic it would be to make a nice cruiser out of my stock motor maybe adding a supercharger down the line after strengthening the rest of it but yea again any help would be awesome thanks guys

My 87 Monte SS had a SBC-400,a small B&M blower, and would run 11.70s at 117,all fit under a 2 1/2" hood,Drove it 30,000 miles, put a 250 nitros shot on it then 10.60s at 128,Quiet,nice gas milage...Nice drive down the shore car.....But more fun going out of sight on Mustangs and GN'S....OLDHEAD

IF MONEY IS A PROBLEM KEEP THE 305 INTACKED AND HAPPY AND SAVE UP AND BUY SMART ... a good 350 4 bolt roller cam motor used is like 300$$ you can redo the vortec heads and re use the roller lifters on a better cam . the cast crank in the 305 and factory 350 rods are good to about 400 h/p and 6000 rpm with good hardware . so buy a cam that will get ya happy on pump gas .and some good pistons in claimer rules they section there is alot for cheap . if you dont want to pc. it together from your 2 motors then get a scat cast steel 3.75 or 3.875 crank and rods for a roller short block . the cheap out is still a hydro roller and reusing the lifters . you can make about 500 h/p and 6800 rpm with the scat stuff and a good head like afr 195 or 210

Save your money and put a ls motor in it.Pass emissions if done right and the convienece of modern technology. You can get then for around $700 at the yards in Pa.
