Thanks Split!

It was originally an RS, but the original engine and transmission were long gone when I bought it 5 years ago. It did originally have a vinyl top, I think that is why it was rotted so bad.....

It's been a big undertaking, but it'll be worth it in the end. I will put up more pics of it this week or weekend, when I get a chance :)

Thanks for the compliments guys.....I really didn't think the car was in that bad of shape but the more we took off and especially after sandblasting the thing revealed some major problems. But hey at least I will know the car is practically brand new when I get it done.

I will post up some more pics of it this weekend. Just slapped some Cal Tracs on it last night too-

Are you a body man by trade? That would take a few more tools other than a grinder and a welder  Man, I don't know if I would be able to get something like that back together once it was all cut apart.

Hello kurt,

Nah, I'm not a body man, I don't have that kind of talent. I helped out a little bit (sand blasting and trim) but truth be known I probably got in the way more than anything, lol.

I don't see how these guys can get one back together like this either....miss a mark by a 1/4 inch and the whole thing is in trouble.

Notice we left the trunklid on, that was a big help in keeping things lined up right. Bodywork is an art, no doubt about it! And let me tell ya, even though I bought all Goodmark sheetmetal it didn't fit and line up as good as I expected it would. heck, NOS stuff doesn't either most of the time, lol.

Believe it or not the guy that did the work was on his own working out of a backyard type shop......he got all of this done in 5 weeks time. Amazing.

He was working 12 hours a day, no phone or distractions to slow him down. He did put the upper dash in wrong (couldn't get the windsheild in) but that is fixed.....and no complaints from me. I don't know how it is in your area, but most of the body guys around here would have the car for 3-4 months, some probably more.

As soon as I get this one done I have another '68 basket case to get busy on...going to make that one a 'driver' with a little bit of 'Pro Touring' in the mix, but nothing too extreme.

Looks like you brought that one back from the dead. Nice job, now just put 396/375 motor in it and come play with us in Stock.

That was/is kinda tempting.....but I have a '69 camaro body that is going to Rinehart's Performance in Thomasville PA in 6 weeks or so that will be a SS car....lookin' to run in SS/CA and SS/DA with 427 power. But I am keeping the '68 all steel and the body unmodified just in case I want to run stock in the future.

I looked into the Dynacorn thing......I almost did it but doing it this way was actually cheaper. I am getting set to do another '68 that will start from scratch after I finish the street/strip car and it will be done the same way.
