Any tips for a newbie

Post by lightemup »

Im going to try my hand at organized racing for the first time this year in the 12.0 class any tips you veterans can give me? Ive been down the track about 30 times just never really been concerned with reaction times except armdrops on the street.

Litemup,

Good advice already in the above post for ya......get the car to run 11.90 and 'wheel race' your opponet. Lots of games are played at the stripe :D

lots of things you can do to adjust your reaction time and ET on the starting line. Shallow staging, rolling in deeper.......even deep staging (turning off the top bulb BUT MAKE SURE THE TRACK ALLOWS YOU TO DO SO before you do it or you will likely get DQ'd.....)...rolling in deeper will quicken the reaction, slow the ET (we are talking 2-3 hundredths here).

Also experiemnting with different size front tires will make a difference in reaction time. Small tires= quicker reaction, larger the tire the slower the reaction time (bigger tires stay in the beams longer).

lots more to it than this, but it will get ya thinking. Try lots of stuff at the test and tunes to get it all figured out-

my best advice is to set up the car to go 11.90 and then back it down a lil and enter the street bracket class at Atco on saturdays. That is the best practice you will get and the bracket gang will give you all the help and advice you can absorb. great buncha people and many of them run 12.00 anyway.

The best advice i can give you is : Make your car go a 11.97 to 12.03 on the first time shot .Next add or subtract weight in your car ,so if i go 11.98 i'll add 30 pounds , so then next pass i sould go 12.01. as the rounds start i will remove weight to each round and air get better. this class is the toughest index class there is .next step you better cut a light, between a .010 to a .030 . I hope this help you ..... The 3 top guys last year are walt hass, jim harvey, jeff mazzoni . if you have a chance watch these guys run. you will learn alot . and watch out for the that female racer barbra lutz. good luck.

This 12.00 class is the toughest index class there is .treat every round like the final. how many of you's are really trying, do you take it for granted that your going to beat the other racer. If so your going to lose.Tip part 2: If you leave the line and look over, is the other racer in front or behind you. If the racer is behind you , it usaully means the other racer had a shitty light .so at the top end ( before the finish line )put your front tire in front of the racecar tire ( about a foot ). don't get 2 car lengh in front your going to break out .so back off . you will learn this over time .
P.S. unk you inproved very well last year. keep it going. and to jim harvey that never won a race in his life ,an finished 2 place over all. GREAT JOB :D

If you are going to win against me you earned it ,I'm not giving and freebee's

Lightemup, Im not much on giving tips on 12.0, cause i have not won one yet. BUT, what i can tell ya, is that you need to cut a real good (light), and get your car to hit that 12.00.1.these guys are brutel. But we do have fun, like i said, and you could not ask for a better bunch of guys & barbara. lol

Hope this helps ya, and good luck
