don't forget the kids!!!

Post by the big edbosky »

o kay so here is my thing. there is another track in the new jersey area that gave me this idea. i can't help to think that having some kind of playground area for the kids would be a great idea. i voiced this opinion with e-town via e-mail and i think it just fell on blind eyes and was fowarded to the trash bin, and a new sliding door was installed on the scale keyosk instead.
i know that for alot of racers this sport is considered a family sport. but for some racers (like myself), actually alot of racers, their kids are still young in age. with that being said their attention span only lasts so long and then they become restless. then the restlessness leads to other issues. mom starts getting aggrivated because there is only so much to entertain them with. i know that right away there would be red flags thrown up as far as liability issues and such. but honestly is there any more possibility in kids getting hurt on a play ground than there is with them playing on the bleachers or in the pits?
yeah it would be easy to just leave them at home. but how will leaving them at home spark their intrest in the sport. they are the future of drag racing. lets hear some opinions and maybe we can inspire e-town to get creative.

We always thought it was a good idea to have something for the kids to do if they get bored.
I have never been to E town, but doesn't Atco have a play area for the kids? Been 5 or 6 years since I have been over that way.

Shoot nothing against Cecil, but this past year they just tore that big house down next door and made the parking area larger (which they needed). But it would be nice to see something like that over there since that is where we spend most of our time.

Insurance!!!! They have been doing 50/50s at the Motocross track(E-Town) for a couple years now to put a playground in But I have yet to see it. I was thinking at the last Moto last year With ALL the money I(and i know everyone els has) gave to the 50/50 over the years I'm pretty sure they could have built them kids a Friggin mansion..lol I DON'T know for a fact but it just might have to do with insurance??? If someones kid falls off something and breaks a bone the track can be held liable.

Sorry for the delay in responding to your questions. I spoke with the owners, and although there is a tremendous amount of open space in the pits at the quarter mile and eighth mile track, our many large events take up every inch of space, which is why additional paving was done this past winter.

that is unfortunate. room shmroom. i didn't realize a swingset, slide, and some monkey bars would take up that much room. it's not like i'm suggesting them to build something of tremendous proportions. but i guess since a playground has no potential to generate any money it's simply not a good idea. how about a candy stand. that would be for the kids, and they could charge 5 dollars for a bag of skittles.

I take my son ( 7yoa) to watch the races all the time. Atco: very fan friendly never a problem. E-town on the other hand seems to be all about the mighty dollar. My son is on a restricted diet due to food allergies and I had to fight with security to let him in with crackers and juice. Could'nt stand by the road racing course for 5 minutes while he watched the dirt bikes. WAs told wanna watch the dirt bikes go pay admission. E-town is a great facility and granted they are in the business to make money but have the wanna be security ease up on the fans.
