victor jr. heads

Post by mikebflh »

I'm kind of in a bind right now. Been running a 302,performer rpm cam, lifters, and intake,4150 DP with proform main body,351w heads, long tubes 1 5/8 with 2 1/2 mac pro dumps in a 5 speed 84 lx. Developed a problem with 1 of the heads(cracked),don't have the extra bucks to fix right now but I do have a set of edelbrock victor jr. heads I was saving for a 351 build next year. A few friends are saying the heads will work but will probably be a little sluggish under 2000 rpm. I have access to the matching vic jr. intake also and I have checked clearance on the valves and it's ok. Bottom end is freshened up stock, block never decked and i,m also running crane 1.6 rockers. Any opinions or comments on this set-up would be appreciated. I know a lot of guys don't like vic jrs. but it's all i have to run right now. Also rear gears are 3.73. Thanks in advance for any input, good or bad.

I would think in your application they would work ok. Maybe not the best deal for your engine, but you have them. Screw them on and see what the car does, you really have nothing to loose but a few gaskets and a bit of time. I have never personally had a set of those across my flow bench so do not have all the info i need to make a educated call. I did look in the catalog last night at the numbers and if there close you will be ok.

Thanks for the opinion. I'm kind of undecided right now, I think they'll work but i'm a little unsure of a stock bottom end being able to handle a 2.05 valve. II was fishing for someone else who may have tried this combo. I see you're from York, where you located at?
