Broke locker at Ocean City - Input on Ford 9" Differential

Post by fairlaniac »

I did something to my Detroit locker on my Fairlane last Friday at Ocean City. I yanked the axles last night, they are OK. I have not had a chance to pull the pumpkin. If it's a major break I'm going to get something other than a Detroit Locker. I'm getting tired of the clicking around corners. What are any of you that have a 9" running for a differential? This is mostly street with some strip. I'm tempted on a OEM Ford clutch type traction-lok.

Thanks,
Doug Bender

They make one that has springs for tension and one that has a beveled washer, get the one with springs. Nice car by the way

I have a Detroit Locker they are the strongest limit slip made.I know alot of cars using them that run faster then the 9s,,,I gone near 8.60 with no clicks or problems,,,The ford posi unit and Alburn's can't come near them for long lasting or handling power.....OLDHEAD

Your locker might not be the problem.Pull the center section you might have a crack in the case where the small bearing is pressed into the center section.
I pulled my center and had a hairline crack in the case. Some stock cases are prone to cracking in that area, not a lot of metal around the bearing.I will be getting a strange N case
