over heating
Went to atco last night and car was running very hot
I put an electric water pump on and the dam thing was up 220 degress with a bbc.Car ran fine with stock pump never seen 180.Checked everything out, water was full, battery charged, fan blowing everything was working. No water in the oil ethier. The pump was bought bran new last year and the engine idles at 1100rpms.Could the pump not have a nuff volume,or is it junk. Its a csr.

Re: over heating
I have tryied a lot of cooling improvements(?) on my 1000 hp SBC-400 street car....The best that I found is a stock pump with a Flex-a-lite fan #1319....Last summer it was 97 out and I drove in north Phila for almost 2 hours and finialy reaching as high as 175............Oldheadjunk496 wrote:Went to atco last night and car was running very hotI put an electric water pump on and the dam thing was up 220 degress with a bbc.Car ran fine with stock pump never seen 180.Checked everything out, water was full, battery charged, fan blowing everything was working. No water in the oil ethier. The pump was bought bran new last year and the engine idles at 1100rpms.Could the pump not have a nuff volume,or is it junk. Its a csr.

Re: over heating
you need to use a restrictor with elec. pumps. if you let it free flow the water will always be moving and not allowed time to cool. the fan direction probably didn't help either. are you using a shroud with your fan and rad. ?

Re: over heating
I have been having a over heating issue as well . Recently I replace my 14 inch electric fan with a new one same size as the old one cause it was causeing a huge draw on my charging system and burned out my alternator as result. I replace the old alt (100 amp GM 1 wire ) with 50 amp one for auto zone. Since then the car want to get to 210-215. I took the t-stat cause I thought it was gettin hung up . The fan is the same size Hayden 14 inch fan . Could the Altenator not be up to snuff to put out enought charge to power my eletric water pump , Fan , MDS , Fuel pump and other acessories for the car . When I drive I have 13.5 volts and when I am at a idel its at 12volts So thats why I was kinda thinking the Alternator isnt big enough.
Sorry to hi jack the tread just lookin for a new perspective

Re: over heating
Elec.fan=15-19 amps, water pump 10-12 amps, fuel pump = 8-15 amps,MSD+10 amps,lights=10-15amps...Not anything left......I don't know if this is your overheating problem.....If your water pump is wired wrong the water still goes the right way,but only about 60%.....Hook your voltmeter right to the fan wires at the fan, read the voltage there while driving...PM me with the info.......OldheadPONY GUY wrote:I have been having a over heating issue as well . Re: over heating
belt routing on fox 's can run the pump backwards and electric motors can too . a 100 amp alyt output can keep all your electric stuff running faster. blade angle, rpm, number of blades and shroud all play a part in cfm .look at the rating and cheak your voltage drop with everything on . ya gotta do ya home work .
