Well im looking to see what you guys run on your turbo cars.I know there are some turbo cars on here from 10s down to 8s that are driven on the street.Im not talking at night for a fast cruise.Something you can get in on a summer day and cruise around and be fine.
What do you use to keep it cool?...type of fan?..a friend was using electric fans and his car had trouble cooling. He switched to a stock clutch fan and it cools great.I see that the taurus fans flow a great amount of cfms compared to most electric fans made from flex lite etc.4000 cfms compared to approx 2500 for the "GOOD" flex lite fans?Whats the deal?..taurus's must be serioussss lol jk
Anyways my car is about done..i bought everything for the car and is mostly all on..except the fan..what should i run?..stock clutch fan?..im more worried about being able to drive the car all around rather than the 10hp but if there is a good fan ill buy that.thanks

Re: turbo car cooling? fan type?
I have found that a stock GM 7 blade fan with a new clutch is equal to a dual 12'" flex-a-lite fans.........Now put a Flex-a-lite SS fan #1318 and now you got bigtime cooling....The dual unit ran at 190-205 while going 55 down route 73 on the way to Atco........But the #1318 on a 95 deg. day I drove thru north phila stopping for traffic lights at stayed under 175 for almost 2 hours............Stay cool.....Oldhead PS; only thing bad about the 1318 is with the car in neutral and the brakes off you race the engine and the fan tries to move the car.

I use a 16 inch proform fan, and a moroso electric water pump, stock 67 Chevelle radiator. I use a 3/4 inch resitrictor instead of a thermostat. i drive around on a 90 degree days and only turn the fan on when I'm coming to a stop light, or a congested area. It stays at or below 180 the whole time, every now and then it will go to 200 if i forget to turn the fan on.
this is the fan, it's 66 bucks, has worked good for me so far. you just have to make sure you hook it up with the correct polarity, and the fan blade must be in the correct direction depending on if your pushing or pulling.

lol thanks guys..its odd to see that everyone uses cheapy fans and has great luck with them.I think im going to try out one of the taurus fans in that case..cheap and flows 4000 cfms on high setting? I just dont want to run into problems..would rather ask questions now.thanks again

mkviii fan wired on high speed if you can find one if not the taurus one should work fine.... the metal flex fans pull tons of air but are almost as loud as the turbo lol.

lol yea i dont like how loud they are really..im all about trying to make this thing super quiet..and i dont like the sound of a loud fan..loud turbo spool or blow off is fine..waste gate?..im even going to get that plumbed into the down pipe after a little probably

I use the tuarus fan. the rating is actually 5000cfm.
a regular automotive relay is going to last to run it. I ended up putting a100 amp relay (looks more like a starter solenoid).
As for being quiet. forget it. louder with the larger relay, heat loss in smaller relay, meaning the relay will get warm. they pull like 40 amps!
so loud that after putting larger relay on, ignition off, charger on testing fan and the phone rang. normally i would take a call using that phone but the fan was so loud i had to change extensions.
as for cooling I like to pull into the burnout box and not be over 140 degrees.
to cool to ambient from 180or higher after a run takes under 5 minutes.
with no t-stat at idle no moving with fan on motor takes 25 minutes at idle to go from ambient to 180. yeah i actually had taken the time to test and record this kinda stuff to know if something was out of wack later on.
I wouldnt waste time looking at anything else.
there is a guy selling a few in the parts section for 50 bucks.
Dorman (the "help" product company sells them for under 150 brand new)
I just bought one to replace the one that i broke on the wall.
now here's something cool about this.
ever do a burnout and then have to shutoff cause they got a clean up. and now you sit there and heat soak.
Well with this fan you will be able to make it cooler for the 2nd burnout and pull to the line than you would have if you hadnt been stopped.
And when the guy in the other lane wants to make you get hot... he is just kidding himself.
