I Just bought this carb!Am I all set?

Post by s10aromeo »

I just bought a carb off ebay. a 950 hp holley.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... OTORS:1123

I asked the guy if it was factory.....

Dear s10aromeo427,

Not exactly. The rear power valve was blocked and the jetting was increased accordingly. There is no need for a power valve circuit in the rear of a performance carb, and it will actually cause fuel starvation upon launch. I've also installed the rear jet extensions to further prevent fuel starvation during a hard launch. I'll be shipping your carb Wednesday and you'll receive a shipping notification at your PayPal email address with the tracking info. Thanks for your purchase, Steve

SO.... my question is... is this carb a stock holley 950 hp.Is is good for a 10.50 1/4 mile car.13:1 comp 427 sbc.Just worried about where I am starting with my tuning. If I have to chnage anything to get it back to factory.

There are three 950 hp carbs, the one you want is #80496-1,it came with #78 jets front and back,he is giving you the right info on the rear PV...When removing the rear PV you will want to go larger in rear jets between 7 to 10 sizes.....As far as this being the right size for you,I would say its a little big but it might be good if your engine goes high RPMs.......Let see if anyone here has tryied it on your size engine............Have fun Oldhead

if the truck is light , the conv. is dead on along with the trans and gearing and tire being optimal for the combo and if it's going to be a track only truck i'd put power valve blocks in both the front and rear metering blocks and square the jets to 88 as a starting point and bring the squirter sizes up. i had a 1000+ HP flowed to 1060cfm on my old 383 with a lil less compression and went low 10's at 3000 lbs. i then switched to a 1050 cfm dominator #9375 with a ray barton adaptor and picked up a couple tenths.

I'd run it. of course i'd take it apart first. make sure jets are what is stated, check the needle and seats, float type and level, and take compressed air and blow every passage out. wiggle the boosters, make sure they are tight. I'd also get a pin gauge set and check the size of the air bleeds, e-holes, power valve channel restrictions, and Idle feed restrictions. write those numbers down, they all can be adjusted to really tune the thing in. also look at what the power valve is rated at, and lastly check the base plate to make sure it has a power valve protector.

Let me put it this way, good seller or not, ebay has alot of junk floating around, you bought a good carb at a very reasonable price. Just make sure there isn't a reasonwhy it was so cheap. cover your ass. good luck
