blowthrough mass air meter?

Post by 88blownstang »

I bought a blowthrough mass air meter from a local performance shop and it was calibrated for 60lb injectors.I bought both the injectors and mass air meter..and also the pigtail afterwards to convert it since it was for a newer body style mustang not a fox.

Now it seems that i cant use this for my car since it is not calibrated to the computer?..A friend explained how it works but can it work? Ive seen people using the newer meters..and i was told it had to be sent back and completely recalibrated to my car and still use the pigtail.I guess i got boned?I would have thought a GOOD performance shop would have told me this before hand while i forked out as much in the end as buying a new one now i have to have it redone?.

On the 95 and older Fords you can use a properly calibrated mass air meter without having to do a chip. You can do the same on the 96 and newer cars, but reflashing via a programmer is more common on those. If you have a meter that is calibrated for 60lb injectors and you are using 60lb injectors it should work fine. The only thing when running a blow through that becomes tricky is the way the sample tube inside the meter is positioned. You will most likely have to clock the meter once it is running to get the idle to smooth out. The reason for this is turbulence inside the tubing. This especially holds true if there is a bend in front of the meter. The general rule of thumb is to have atleast 8" of straight tubing in front of the meter. Many times when Pro M/PMAS calibrates a blow through they will install a pipe in front of it. But all should work fine. Install it and get it running. Then clock the meter to where the car idles nicely.

fox mass air cars have a different fuel curve then the newer 96 on up cars.. could be off as much as 40%.. send it back and they will have it fixed for your car.. so as of right now no..

You cant go by the pigtail alone on PMAS mass air meters since ALL of their meters use the 96 and newer style sensor/connector and require and adapter pigtail to be used with the older 4 pin oval mass air connector.
As for the original poster; You bought the stuff from Craig. If Craig told you it would work then it will unless you have something different than what you told him.
