breathers or evac.

Post by the big edbosky »

so what do you guys prefer to use on your motors. a standard valve cover breather (like a k&n) or an crank case evacuation system?
as for the evac systems, are they worth it for a 400 h.p small block or are they more advantageous to big h.p. motors?

Years ago, I ran a Moroso Crankcase evac on my, race only, Pontiac. The header evac doesn't work well for a street car, but I remember that the instructions showed a third vacuum source, with a third one-way valve, coming from the intake manifold. This would be used for low RPM or idle situations. Mine worked great, but like I said, it was race only.

I run 10.50s with a 427 sb and only turn 6500 rpm.I run te K&N breathers on my stock style breather holes.I fold a rag over a couple times and zip tie it to the breather to catch any of that oil mist that runs down on the vavle cover. :beathorse:

if you run a pcv and dual front mounted v/c evacs it will keep the moisture out of the oil but you wont see much performance gain .if your exaust system is to big or too small it wont work at certain rpms . a vacuum pump is for race only and needs to be set up for max levels depending on piston ring and pin types but can show big gains .
