tubes or no tubes

Post by juiced347 »

As most of you can tell i am starting to get the car straightend out (lots of tech posts LOL)
But now i have a new problem, i have been running the car with 29x10-15 hoosier drags on a draglite wheel and have been running tubes. i spoke to one of my friends and he was in shock i was running a slick with a tube in it. he said there are much gains to be made running with out a slick. but what i was questioning is that i cant imagine the tires will hold air with no tube since they are pinned to the wheel? ANy one have any imput on running tubes or not. All help if very much appreciated Thank you

juiced, rotating weight = horsepower (loss). I have been running tubeless for years, but when I went to beadlock wheels, my son mounted them and they leaked. I had him re-mount them, coating the inside of the tire and the bead with Dawn dish washing liquid. They haven't gone down since I last raced on Labor Day. As far as using a vacuum pump goes, they are good for ring seal, and ring seal is good for horsepower.

this post is old but very important . dawn soap ,hunter wheel mounting lube , vht and bead sealant all will slow or stop even the worst offending leakers. you gotta roll the whole inside and do the rim bead when mounting . if you have vergin rims you can use a drift/chisel to put teeth on the rims bead area and ditch the rim screws too! remember you will need to run more air to sopport the sidewall than you did with tubes----good luck

I run Hoosier 29x10 slicks, no tubes, screws (probably did not need them though!), no leaks! Nothing was put inside them when they were mounted. No silicone on the screws either. Haven't used tubes in years. Run 15-18psi in them, low 10 second car on motor, 9.2's on juice.

I don't run tubes, and my tires stay inflated for months... OLDHEAD, your friends are doing something wrong if tires are going flat over night  . Just because your drive "everywhere" doesn't mean it's right. Here in 2008, yes oldhead, 2008, not 1914, most of us are not running tubes.

No tubes is the only way to go.
tubes are a thing of the past, they rip, they tear, they rot out. :nopity:
