i have a 90 tbi truck. im redoing the motor, ive got the shortblock done.
i was thinking on just buying a set of vortech heads. i firgure they arent to much money assebled and not have to do any of the work to the old ones. my question is should i just buy an intake for it also?? are they cheap enough, and if not what do i have to do to conver the old intake? Do i have to do any type of "converting" for voretech heads with a TBI motor?
any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: gm vortech heads
dont know about port matching but you should have center bolt covers and upright manifold bolts even back to 87 swirlport tbi motors.
look up just intake gaskets and see how far up and down they go

Vortecs have 4 bolts per side on the intake. You can get a cheap intake that will bolt up to the heads and the tbi. I have drilled and tapped the heads in a pinch, but I'd go the intake swap route...

ok thanks guys. i will have to look for a nice head/intake combo possibly.
i think i am looking at possibly gettin a new TB, depending on my xmas bonus. but i am definatly gettin a new harness... the old one is so ratty and bad looking, i dont need to start having problems down the line..

96 and later vortec heads have a raised runner. You have to use a vortec specific intake.

thanks for the info. now my question is, do they make an intake to use the 96+ heads with my pre 96 TB and computer??

Dunno, I use a carb.
I know they make an adapter to bolt a throttle body on a regular holley 4150 4bbl manifold. I have an older Holley projection system laying around that uses a 2 bbl throttle body that is the same as a factory GM unit. with the kit it has the adapter for a 4 bbl intake. You could easily make an adapter out of a chunk of aluminum if you really got stuck.
