Where am I at with my nitrous tune?
OK, so 2008 was a feel the car out try not to break it year, which no thanks to my efforts to f something up, worked out.
I am a firm believer in getting what you can out of the car on motor before spraying. Best motor pass with spray parts (convertor, gears, plugs) was 10.53 @ 128. Sprayed 200 shot (plate good to 300) only two passes last year and went 9.69 at 138 mph best. Cam is a motor cam (108cl).
A/F on last spray pass was 11.9 a/f across board.
System is on a progressive controller and both passes had 50% off line ramped up to 100% over .5 second in first gear.
Where do I go from here? Other than leaving on the full 100% not sure what else to do.
60ft was a 1.42.
What next, play with the tune on the 200 shot or move up to the 300 shot? Suspension? weight? Car is 3300 going down the track.

How did the plugs look? What is the stall of the convertor on motor? On juice? Something isn't adding-up right here.
I can go 10.0 @ 136 on motor, then hit it with 150hp and go 9.2 @ 146+. I don't have a nitrous anything in the car. I don't think your 200hp is actually giving you 200hp. I hit it 100% off the line footbraking from 1500rpm. Same weight car as you but run a 'Glide. I've been 1.24 in the 60ft trying to go 8's. 9.1 @ 148 is the best.......... If the jetting should give you 200hp then you may have a nitrous delivery problem or an exhuast problem. I had my NX solenoid checked and it wasn't as large as advertised. 11.9 AF can be on the rich side, but you need to check the plugs. How much initial timing? How much are you pulling? What kind of engine, heads, compression, fuel?

think you should get the suspension figured out first then play with it on motor think you can get more out of it then worrie about spraying it but you never listen

I will try to cover it all:
Car stalls on Transbrake on motor to 3600.
Plugs look good considering the fact that I am not 100% what they should look like. Little brown on the fuel ring and up to the curve on the strap. Nothing too white. Timing on motor is 38, pulling 10 degrees out on the spray which I think is a bit much. Motor specs are below. Compression is 11.1 Fuel on spray is 93 octane on motor system, and 116 on spray system. 2 systems.
I am running two chamber flowmasters and 1 3/4 headers which I think is a restriction on both ends of the exhaust. 3.5 inch exhaust.
I am gonna go bigger on the headers and swap to magnaflows, may step the gears up to 4.56 and play with the suspension some more and see how fast I can go on the motor. Revisit the spray in the fall. Shoot for a really fast time when the better air comes around.

One change at a time, so you know what works, and what don't work. I Learned the hard way.

Re: Where am I at with my nitrous tune?
I would stay with the 200hp tune and make sure you get it tuned to it's fullest before you try adding more. I slowly refined a tune and got .2 and 3 mph more out of the same exact tune.
I assume you have a seperate pump and regulator for your nitrous system? What are your current jets and fuel pressure? I think 28 total on a 200hp shot may be a bit much, depends on the plug you are running. What do you have in there right now? Have you been able to make a pass, kill the motor after the traps and coast-off the track and pull some plugs? This is what I first did. Got onto the return road and put some spare plugs in it so I could drive it back to the pits. I only did a few, certainly not all 8. Not fun to do even with Mechanix glaves!
Exhaust system sounds ok, I wouldn't worry about it, almost same stuff I run except I have 2" headers from Lemons. At least you have a good convertor (stall-wise) to work with. Should leave you a lot of room to grow with. If you put more gear in the car it will lower your stall, allowing you to run more N2O as long as you don't run out of motor (rpm-wise) in the traps.
If your motor was built to handle a good shot of nitrous I wouldn't worry about getting too much out of it off the bottle. Try to get the car to use ALL that nitrous right off the line. See below........
Before learning to control power with timing:

After:

This is where you want the timing to be on your plug:

If you can cut open a plug and look at it, this is pretty close to perfect for my combo:

Re: Where am I at with my nitrous tune?
Thanks for the help. I did check the plugs after the first pass, they looked great. I am running ngk 8's gapped at 35. I think I am gonna take the advice and play with this tune for a bit and also step dwon the gear as I am going though on the shift light now with 4.10's.

Give Steve Johnson at Induction Solutions a call. Leave a message if he doesn't answer, HE WILL call you back! He helps a lot of people whether they bought stuff from him or not.
He helped me a lot! After a year of "bothering" him I finally sent my intake to him for a dry fogger setup. That's the way he does business. By helping whomever he can, eventually the word spreads and he picks-up customers here and there.
You can also talk to him in person, he does a lot of traveling for both his company and as a representative for Edelbrock. I met him in person at Atco in 2008 at an NMRA race. Great guy. He must wear-out dozens of cell phones a year, he is ALWAYS talking N2O with people all over the place!

Re: Where am I at with my nitrous tune?
the cam and exhaust are hurting it. your running up against a big pumping loss if the timming is that far back on 200. if it likes time, less fuel psi or bigger nos jets your in a hole looking up . ya need to let it breathe .
you said c16 in nos pump. try q16,c23 or no2 they are lower in spec. gravity the no2/c23 will lean up a little about 1.5% and the q16 is oxygenated for a larger window of ideal stoich.that will lean it up 3-4% both burn rates are reported as nos ok
when ya mix fuels the nos fuel needs to be nasty but still compatible to the tune up . ya cant have a fast burn n/a pump gas thats oxygenated and a slow burn low rpm high octane or flip floped . thats where your ideal timming get screwwy it is like a desiel using a spark plug .
depending on the actual mix it may like it or not. try it with more or less leed then play with fuel psi
we ran 12.05/112 n/a with the nasty 106 cam in and 9.98 /136 dragging bumper in 1987 on a 250 shot 1 3/4 headers into 2.5 exhaust.
in 3600# 355 sbc street nova( 4.56 th400 3600 9" stall 28" tires)
we went to a custom cam (big ex .115lca adv. 7 deg ) for the nos ,tighter 10" converter stepped 1 7/8" into 3.5 " with x pipe
went to afr heads210 ported and valved for nos (big ex) car went 12.20 at 114 we were pissed!!!!!
but on spray went 9.50 on 250 and 8.96 on 400
talk about a real street car that cam and converter tamed it to a cruiser till ya opened the bottle !! that 4 digit h/p !!!!!!

Yes, there was still room to lean it out or add more nitous jet. Felt the timing was good where it was. Not the same on all cylinders either (the timing mark on the strap). Will basically be learning it all over again with the new fogger Steve just did, but I should be pretty close off the bat.

I would ad nitrous jet to the fat cylinders. Steve puts together an awesome set up for sure!
