Post by p1mack »

Hey Guys,

Just looking to make up my budget on the 82 GT.. finally got back in the game after being a lurker for many years on these sites.

1st question(s).
looking for pricing on Fab:
-mini tub
-blocking off the hatch area
-moving the shocks inward

Thanks for any input!!

now when you say move you shocks inward...do you want to cut that 5 -6 inches of metal out and install wheel wells/tubbs and do it the right way or just move them and notch it...plus if your going to move your shocks you might want to consider upgrading at the same time to a coil over combo set up.which will eliminate your stock springs and give you a nice squat in the rear on your launch...

Yeah, Prostreet, I'd prefer to do everything right.. of course that raises the fear of "do this.. then that.. then this" So, if it all adds up too much, I'll have to go back to keepin it more basic (aka:slow).

just some more info:
I believe the 351 make about 350 horse.. mid 90's lightning with a carb setup on top.
Hanlon built t-5
Acker built 8.8 rear

let take it back a step
what size tire do you want to fit on the back
a 10.5 which is the class size measure 11-12 bulge to bulge pending on the rim width
10.5 w whick is a 31 x 13.5 15 with a 12.5 thread...
if you just want the smaller tire you can leave the car alone and run it..but it'll stock out alittle
and if you want the bigger tire or both to fit and tuck under neath the quarter panel like a pro street then yes you will need to mini tub it
should be around $3500 and if you dont have a roll cage and if you do it at the same time add another $800 for a 6 or 8 point bar just need to know if your running your rear seat and thats if you remove your interior all your panels and rug and padding! your self just leave seats in with 2 bolts for roll bar mock up
that would include qa1 triple adjustable shocks with upper crossmember installed and brackets welded to rear end...widen your stock wheel wells or fabing a new custom set...6 or 8 point bar...custom made for your application which includes custom door bars and hatch bars custom bent....that price should be good for any 3 of our local chassis shops...because they are all compeating with each other...they will all be around the same price...they might evan throw in the bar for a cheaper price or even include it in the 3500 because they are all hurting for buiness...hope this helps

Great info/pics! Thanks!

I'm really just weighing my options.
I had a 440 charger years ago.. and finally got back in the car game with this mustang. I'll probably be more of a street car guy then a hitting the track up guy. I see myself more doing an upper and lower control arm, shocks, and springs with a close to 26X8-10 tire on the back. Since I'm not building a 408 or anything. haha
I just can't stand the opening to the cabin.. would like the hatch closed off. The car has a 6pt cage in it already.. without the back seat in. Everything on the car needs to be cleaned up since it's been sitting for about 8 years... which means I'm pricing as much as I can..

ok, great.. not bad with the hatch area.
Definately think I'm better off putting the money in the drive train and "resto" then into rear suspension/mini tub. as much as I love the look and performance of that setup. I just won't be making the power to need it.

thanks for the help...
