Re: 4-Speed?
no its not
i won plenty of bracket races running a 4spd - make sure your air gap on the clutch is consistent - make an adjustable bolt stop for the clutch pedal so you always depress it same amount and can adjust it for reaction time , and a shift light -
if you have a good trans and you can run it right its deadly
having a brake pressure gauge on the front brakes helps - 2-6 lbs held up front with the line lock while you bump into the beams helps you stage with out rolling
i will be out there next year with a stick car too

Re: 4-Speed?
Thanks for the tips. I'm in the process of putting together an all steel 67 Chevelle with a 4-speed that basically a street car but I'd like to try to run this class next season.

Re: 4-Speed?
In my opinion they should all be four or five speeds. I mean we are only going 1320 feet in straight line, how hard can it be?

Re: 4-Speed?
I'm only 18 so I guess thats why I enjoy a 4-speed so much. I think they go hand and hand with sex lol. Whats a hot rod without a 4-speed? Nothing like rippin through the gears.

Another 67 Chevelle running the indexes? Right-on man! The more the merrier I say!
I grenaded 4 muncies in my chevelle before giving up and going automatic. They were lots of fun but got expensive real fast.
Come to think of it, I grenaded a whole pile of automatics too...so whatever...
I agree with D2 and UNK, Build your car the way you want it and have fun. Practice Practice Practice and don't get discouraged when things go wrong (they always do).
Good luck,
Dave

Re: 4-Speed?
Thanks Dave. 67 is the best year for Chevelles. How is your rear suspension set up? I'm at that stage now and I'm looking for some advice. You can send me a personal message if you'd like. I was thinking of using /trz's control ares and an anti-roll bar from DM Products. And coil overs from QA1. I'm I headed in the right direction?
Hey Unk. Drive a 4-speed again and you won't need viagra or that plastic cutie of yours. HAHAHA. Thanks for all the tips. I'll see you guys at the track.

The white car has southside bars, cheap rear shocks, and cheap 90/10's on the front. I was lucky in that my quarter panels were modified by a previous owner and I can fit 315/60 radials. I don't think you need all that fancy stuff to go 12'ohs consistenly.
Now as for CJ's blue car.....if I told you I would have to kill you......OR he would kill me....
Seriously, If you have trouble send me a pm. We index guys always stick together.

Re: 4-Speed?
Stay with the stick, my friend. I've been racing for 16 yrs w/ either a 4 or 5-spd & loving every min of it. Some advice-use Borg/Warner Super T-10 4-spds. They came in '75-81 camaros, firebirds, & corvettes. They have an all aluminum case & have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 rings on the input shaft. The more rings-the steeper the 1st gear. I use the 3 ring one myself- I think its a 2.64 1st gear. I've had 4 muncies & broke 3 of them. I have 2 Borg/warners(& just added a 3rd to my collection) & finally broken the 2nd gear syncro(after 10 yrs) & I could still used the trans. Also use a Hurst Super Shifter 3. It has very short throws & a separate red lever to lock out reverse.
