Racing Classes

Post by DomOH 5 OH »

I need some help deciding what to build. i wanted to build a street car possibly supercharged but i would also like to enter competitions and race. I would like to know what classes will be easy to race in without spending a whole lot of money. i was going to shoot for a low 11's which is possible with a blower without going too crazy, but i know guys are going way faster then that with one so help me out on what path i should consider taking. thanks

im assuming this is your 1st real car. if i were u i would start at 12.0 index class and work your way up from there. a stock block and ported stock heads with a supercharger or no2 could make it happen. racing gets to be x-pensive when you want to go fast. this would be a cheep way to start.
p.s go to work save some money and plan for the future. :fyou:

your mustang will turn into a money pit if your end goal is not a clear vision.

if you want a nasty street car that you can race in multiple classes and hit cruises with you need to pick an et like 12.'s n/a and less than 10.40 on the bottle
the bottle engine will allow a tighter converter and milder street cam compression and manners while n/a .

start with the trans and converter purchase to match your end engine and gear nos combo .(the most important weak link in a ford )
then rear suspension shocks ,arms and braces .
gear it for your tire type small dot or drag radial
get your separate nos and dual fuel system in and test on lowest the setting and safe timing
now start your engine combo while you have fun beating on your stocker
a 331-348 stroker or better yet a 351 will set you up well .
buy alum heads with good velocity and more than normal exhaust flow and get a custom roller grind for your heads ,comp. and chassis
the 10-1 combo with that split/advanced cam will allow alot of extra nos power free of adding stress due to pumping losses and wont be like a nasty duration on 106cl cam on the street . i have had 360 cube combo's that sound good drive well and run 11.50-12.50 and pick up over 2 sec. on a normal plate system using afr and world heads
