i'm breaking down the motor in my lightning because i blew it up. i noticed when i pulled the headers off that there was a considerable amount of oil that came out of them. my o2 sensors are soaked and i know my catalytic converters got soaked as well. will i be able to clean the o2 sensors and converters and still use them or will the oil have rendered them useless. can i use brake kleen or laquer thinner to clean them without harming anything?

It won't hurt your checkbook as much if they can be cleaned. Try it, if you are unsuccessful, your only going to spend the same $$$ as if you just replace the sensors and cats first.

Dump some simple green or castrol super clean in the cats, then flush with plenty of water. Spray the 02's with brake cleaner to get a bulk of the oil off, the rest will burn off when they get up to temp. The oil in the cat's would burn off, but the ash left behind would probably become a restriction.

How many miles are are on the 02's? they don't last forever anyway, you may want to replace the upstream 02's after the engine is running and broken in.

the o2's have maybe 5000 miles on em'. the cats however are like brand new with only maybe 500-700 miles on em'. i like the idea of the super clean. maybe it wont be so hard on the element. thanks
