Okay, so Im thinking of getting some drag radials, or ETs in the not so distant future, nd had a question about whats right and wrong. I run at Bristol, but only in the street fights. I have no desire to go to the pros, or to run index. Its a street car, and always will be. But a few locals do a couple things I thought was, well, wrong.
We all know not to run the front tires through the water box. But a few guys still do. But how do you professional guys heat the rear tires? They do have "tread", sort of. I thought it was proper to drive around, back the rear wheels in, and heat 'em. But some guys drive straight through. And some say you shouldnt put ANY treaded tire in the water. Whats proper?

back the rear tires in spin them over pull out of the standing water and do the burnout.... then you have places like atco where you can't drive around it do to the wall. It does not seem to affect atco much if at all when its preped and your not lined up behind someone on street tires.

Well here they put the water real close to the lights. Id say maybe 10-15 feet from the staging beams. And alot of guys spin right on thru. I thought some tracks wouldnt let any non-pro cars pass the staging beams, and back up. IDK. I guess Ill just make sure I have a line-loc when I get the tires.

roll through the water! if you spin them water will sit in the wheelwells and drip on the tires when you are staging......light turns green car spin....sorry past experiences

i agree with the above post. do not spin tires in water. roll through water and just past it. do burnout and roll it out till the tires grab (chirp). i see many people do a burnout and just stop. that is very hard on the sprag. also...do your burnout in 2nd gear with a 3 spd auto. Just hold the rpm's in the burnout steady for 6-8 seconds and roll it out

Re: Waterbox etiquette
I'm on street tires and i roll thru the water, set line lock, bring it up to 5k and hold it there and wait till the tires pull the motor down a little, off the line lock, holding throttle steady, burn em a little up to the line, then stage. Hope this helps.
