My dad has a 71' Mach 1 with a 427 based block. He recently put the March polished aluminum pulleys on it, crank, water pump, and alt, switching from a V-belt to a serpentine. The water pump is a Edelbrock. What is happening is under a load, ie burnout, (showing off in front of friends) or heavy acceleration the snout of the water pump breaks off and destroys everything, even putting a hole in the hood. Has anyone had this problem? or have any ideas what could cause this. The car is fine just normal driving. This is the second time it has happened.
Thanks
Jim

Re: March pulley?????
i would take that fan off that pulley and put an electric one, seems as if the fan isnt properly balanced. did that fan come close to anything that if it shifted slighty it would hit anything? say the alternator bracket? or any other place? and i dont know if anyone else can chime in on this, but isnt it supposed to have a fan clutch on it? if it comes directly from the water pump pulley?

Re: March pulley?????
How high is he reving it? Those flex fans are only rated to 6k or so and they put a serious strain on the shaft.

Re: March pulley?????
Sorry for the slow response guys and thank you for yours. My dad has since gone to a electric fan and water pump. I beleive the rpms weren't that high, he was just driving sown the road and got on it. He has been to the track with it with no problems. March told him the belt was too tight, but according to thier specs it was actually alittle loose. There was nothing near the fan to hit if it flexed alittle. Thanks you guys for your responses again
