6/13/2008 Etown 8.50 Index & Mean Street Brackets Coverage

I am lucking out this year! With the exception of the scorcher last weekend, the weather for tonight was delightful for spending time at the drag strip. A nice showing for all classes including 8.50 Index, Mean Street, and the test and tune crowd.
Unfortunately tonight there was more than a fair share of cleanups and oildowns , as usual the track staff was all over it and got it taken care of with the quickness. Maybe we need to have a little public service announcement to the test & tune crowd about getting out of the groove when you break!! Race cars break, yeah, it happens, but guys, have some courtesy to the other racers at the strip that day and make sure your ride is reliable before taking it down the 1320. If something does happen to break, STOP AND PULL OVER, someone will come and get you. simple as that. (Yeah, don't like to stereotype, but most of the breaks were loud crappy looking hondas)
The first event going on tonight was the 8.50 Index race. Turned out to be an 8 car field tonight, with TJ Kasper and family taking yet another win! TJ was second qualifier tonight, and on point with the tree. The final race was shaping up to be real close.. Bill Verzilli in his 69 'Maro got a little squirrely on the top end and ended up crossing the center line, but showed his damn good driving skills and kept the car out of trouble and took the runner-up spot.
Congrats to the Kasper team on the win tonight! Nice talking to you guys, you sure are a class act. Also was nice to meet Kenny Jr and Sr in person finally -- tough luck on the redlight tonight, guys, I know you were psyched for the race. Ali & Craig good to see you as well.
As usual a big thanks to Raceway Park for giving us access to the facility (and an air conditioned press box with a fridge
)
Enough of me yapping.. here are the pics. got some OK ones tonight
