20w50 too heavy?

is 20w/50 weight oil too much for a dss 331?..they said it will be fine but ill lose HP..ive heard different views on this...some say itll kill the valves etc since they have to work extra hard to push the thicker oil...some say there is no drawbacks minus the hp loss....
i dont wanna ruin my new motor by running too thick of an oil
10w30 breaks down too easily for me to use

well..yea..id def go lighter in the winter even tho the car sits..ok..i guess ill be safe with this weight..i was also told it depends on how much clearence your motor has in it from when it was built..if it was built loose..you can run thicker oil..if it has tight specs..the thick oil will kill it

did a ton of runs on the dyno from unlimited hydroplanes to bad ass street engines to full nitrous engines on your bassic street engine makin 5 to 600 hp from 10-30 to 20-50 there was only a 3 to 5 hp difference we always used 20-50 in everything and in the winter when its cold use a oil pan heater on the car before ya fire it up bassically just a lizard tank heater taped to the bottom of the pan an hour before firing it up cause its so thick when its from 45degrees and lower 20-50 is the only oil to use and the brand that seemed to hold up better on all the bearings and interals was CASTROL

Your not going to "Kill" anything. It helps to know your bearing clearences when choosing and oil viscosity. Most older style drag motors are going to be looser and the thicker oil is beneficial. A newer modern engine with tight bearing clearences will require a 30 weight oil.
What do you mean by the 30 weight oil breaks down to easily for you?

Id think the tap is something else trying to tell you something. It "should" run fine with the 30wt......going to the thicker stuff is bandaiding something else.

Id prolly start with manually turning the oil pump and make sure your getting oil out of all the pushrods.
