hey guys -
I'm picking up a little portable generator and was wondering if any of you guys using the normal type generators ever had any problems with it messing up your laptops?
I dont' wanna buy an expensive inverter type to get the "clean" power if I dont have to.

your laptop charger should come equipped with a voltage regulator, which will cause it from having surges, hence messing up your laptop if im correct.

I am going through the same process right now. I heard of people haveing no problems & others blowing things out. I think the laptop might be ok as mentioned above but other things do not like "dirty" power I want to use mine for everything from back up to the house for sump pumps or running the micro or tv (need clean for those two) & to take with me when I have no power @ a camp site for our camper. What model are you looking at? I was looking Honda EU2000 but for a little over 100 bucks more Im leaning to the Yamaha EF2400 as that has the juice to fire up a roof top trailer A/C.

I pulled the trigger and got this one: Coleman Powermate 1500 Watt for $350 to my doorstep. All I really need it to power is my battery charger and laptop...
I found a used Tripp Lite line conditioner for a REALLY good price...so that's my strategy for the track this year
