97 jeep cherokee

I feel dumb for even asking this but how in the hell does the top come off of the plastic tank so I can get the fuel pump out? I already pulled the fuel hose off and the metal strap that goes over the cap and it looks like it should just pop off but wont and I dont want to pru on it to hard cause I already started to bend shit. Any help would be appreciated.
I hope this pump is the problem cause Im getting a headache working on this thing, its a good truck but its at 170,000 miles and the little shit is starting to go.

well I got th pump out and hooked it to my battery directly and it works so thats not it wtf!!!

Have you tried to actually diagnose it? or are you taking a shot in the dark?

I did little shit but was pretty sure it was the pump so I kinda took a shot in the dark and it bit me in the ass.... Checked pressure to the shrader valve and there is none yet the pump works when hooked direclty to a 12 volt source. No sound of the pump priming thought when I hit the ket. Relay is fine I already checked it. Its gotta be fuel related. I also remember something that sounded like fuel was boiling in the gas tank when I shut the track off a few weeks before it broke down. I really havent had alot of time to work on it
