Balance or not to balance..

Had the ET streets mounted yesterday. 15x8.5 centerlines with 28x13.50 tires. Need 7.5 ounces to be balanced which was alot of weight, and the guys at the shop were telling me I really didnt need to do it. Car drove fine home under 50-60 but when I got on it I felt some vibration around 60-75. Will this vibration get worse at 125-130 or will I just notice it on the way up? Do you all balance your race car rear wheel setups?

they told you not to balance ? are they stupid
if it vibrates , balance them ...simple as that
lol don't need to be balanced ..thats funny
occasionally you can get away with that

balance. at 7.5 oz i would brake the bead and rotate the tire 180 degrees and then spin it again. sometimes you get a heavy spot on the rim and tire lined up which takes alot of weight in one spot.

Thats what I was thinking, doing that helped me some on one troubled tire a while back. I also try to mount all the weight on the inside of the wheel for obvious reasons if you have that type of balancer. And make sure you secure the wheel weights tight. I always see people loosing wheel weights at the drags when they launch.

Ditto for moving the tire till you find a reasonable amount of weight, 7 oz's is alot and could be made smaller just by spinning it and trying again. Some tires "new" are marked with a spot as to relationship with the air valve in the rim.

This thread does have some merit.

Took them back and got them balanced. One tire needed 9 oz. Didn't break the bead and rotate however. Know that for next time. Probably gonna chuck the weights tomorrow. Moving to the knowledge section now that my question was answered.

I have a machine at my shop that will put roadforce on the tire/wheel assembly and show you exactly where to rotate the tire on the rim for the best balance with the least amount of weight.
This method is far more accurate. If you need help Let me know or find a shop with a roadforce balance machine

... are they clamp on weights or stick on, if they're stick on just put some Duct tape over them (only on the inside hopefully) and they won't come off.

im sure he screwed them already don't think its a good idea 2 unscrew them 2 spin them 180 and how did they balance them static or 2 plane ?

I bubble balance my fronts and my slicks(17x33x15)myself.
never a vibration.
I use bang on weights and use silicone to make sure they never come off and I have never lost a weight.
I have been 177mph using this method.

Static or 2 plane? Ummm

He clamped it on the machine and it spun it like 20 mph and then a little red light came on and said put them here bitch!
Weights were stick on and I put some duck tape over them. Everything seems fine now.

he was right and wrong they need to drive till hot or sat and stretched to equal dia. and then balanced . bal. is balance you can bubble /single and need alot more weight but it works . a road force balance takes the deflection of the tire crush into effect to over compensate the overlap of tread belts in hard ass sidewall radial tires . kind over kill for a bias or drag radial . no mater what after a hot low psi drag tire cools in on spot it will need time to round up .

My balancer will find the heavy spot of the wheel and light side of the tire (called match mounting), will also let me put the weight anywhere on the rim (inside to outside) Pm me if you want me to do them.

not balancing is really not an option in my opinion.

what about the race wheels with the floating centers, balance them too?

I even do Ferrari, and Lambo wires on it, floating centers aren't a problem
