I was doing a water pump in a 88gt with a 5.0 and found something that blew my mind away . I went to take the bolt out on the D/S that is covered by the AC/PS bracket that doesnt hold the bracket on and found that the previous owner broke the bolt off and shuved it back on with on 3 threds on it and silocone it in place to keep it from leaking. So now I gotta do a timing cover gasket . I took the broken bolt out and saw it had a shoulder about 2 inches long and it snaped at about the third thread .
My question is depending on how much thread was left to how much thread it needed to make the bolt tight . Would there be a chance that I can put a pair of vise grips on it and try to get it out with a little heat or does it look like drilling and tap time

they break alot on these cars.... Ive allways had goood luck removing the timing cover and using vise grips to get it out... the "help" brand sells replacements studs and blots but most parts stores need to order them

yeah this is very common. A tech that used to work for me would get the car to about 200 degrees before even attempting any water pump on a 5.0.
I am pretty sure that South Jersey auto in Summers point has the bolt kit in stock. Easier than dealer becouse they sell each bolt itself and some of them have been discontinued.

if you heat it up and melt wax into the threads a reverse bit will buzz it out with out taking cover off.

I never believed this worked until my father in law and I were working on the suspension of my 88 LX.
Told me to go in the house and get a tea candle, heated up the botls and melted the wax into the threads and damn if they did not come right out.
