Not sure about the dupont paint, but John Deere has a paint color called "blitz black" that is the hot rod black look. It's cheap too, only about $10.00/quart.

Not to hijack, but I have heard about the John Deer stuff. Do you spray it, and let it go...or does it get any type of clear?

the john deere stuff is lacquer based and will chalk up if it sees alot of sun. you can buy any single stage black paint,a good brand that is catalyzed, and add a matting agent to it. then it will not chalk up and will last forever.

Here is a link to the John Deere paint. I don't know how good the stuff is.

if you want to get the hot hues paint just head to a dealer for dupont, like a "finishmaster" or "albert kemperle", they both sell all of dupont's line, u can get the same effect by using a matting agent in the clear also using a normal system like chromabase, you can get regular shine, egg shell and low gloss, you'd have to have all the right products to do it but it does come out nice and you get the protection of clear coat too instead of using a single stage or lacquer :mad2:

this what we were told at a paint seminar about two years ago. if you put matting agent in the clear,it loses it's uv protection. that is why it is only recommended for under hood applications. but putting it into a good single stage urethane based paint(like spies hecker or basf's uno) does not hurt the uv protection. the paints are made for it. the days of single stage paints chalking up are gone if you use good products. the john deere paint is not urethane,it a lacquer based enamel. a good way to tell quality is it needs to be catalyzed with a hardener. the john deere stuff is "thin and shoot" crap. it is meant for spraying the underside of machinery, where it gets no sun.

My cars done with rustoleum "painters choice" semi gloss, sanded with 2000, then buffed. Three bucks a can, bought by the case (3)
