I wan't happy with my Richmonds either Susan, but I chose the wrong set for the street so I paid for it with a whine, other than that and setting it wrong to begin with, they have done well, but I don't have the HP you guys do or near it. Sounded like the tranny at first so the gearset is definatley better than a trans or converter.

We know...we know. Bill priced them out today. Henry was none too pleased about the ring & pinion breaking. Bill's there now getting it fixed.
Need to be sure nothing else was damaged.

Susan I think we found the problem with Bill's 12 bolt rear at Henry's today. This is what we found when we took the cover off.

ummm..I'm no mechanic, but it looks like it's missing at least 8 teeth.
You were there Craig? Was everybody in a 'happy' mood?? :lol2:
Seriously though, what the heck is that thing??

Sue,

I use Richmond 4.11 Pro Gears in my 12 Bolt and have been lucky. At 3350 lbs, so far so good - I think I got through 3 seasons so far without a hitch.

If Bill swaps out rears and re-does his set-up, I'm interested in his wheelie-bars!!!!

bill and sue. they dont offer pro gears below a 411 for 12 bolt rears.they wont hold up.there only good for 25 runs.i have been using a 9" for almost 10 years.never a problem.i have herd that by installing a 9" will slow you down 1 tenth.have a grear winter.see you all in the spring( hopfully tested and dialed in for 8.50.). :hay: :hay:

I have a Dana 60 with Richmond 4.88's. 100 street miles and 6 passes on a street gear and lost 4 teeth with a insane noise on deaccel. I don't think in my case it is the gears, I think it was more of the set-up because the pinion was very deep. BUT, you never know!!! :banghead:

Richmonds have always been inconsistent as far as set up goes. And as far as the whining goes that's just the way it is with their gears for years. I run Moser myself and have never had a problem but i know some people running Precision Gears in some high HP applications that have years and years of abuse on the same set.

your due for a diff change .heavy cars in that range dont last. it was 150 on 4.88 50 on 4.56 and 12 on 4.11 .bought a dana 60 and no noise and no problems .think moser has a 12bolt sized dana60 section hybrid bolt in

Neal - the rear is fixed. Definitely want to change the set up. 9" ford is the way to go. As far as the wheelie bars....no way. :D Bill has smashed the headers, oil pan and put the carb vent tube thru the hood on SEVERAL occasions cause of wheelstands. His crew chief won't let him get rid of the bars. :lol2: Seriously, Ron Rhodes did a great job on our car. Give him a call.

Jerz,
Been a year since your last post on the gears, are you guys still running the 12 bolt?
