the tighter the lobe the more flow across the valve during over lap . it all works together, the more duration the more chance you have of overlap flow and the earlier and later the events can start .the lca determines what rpm and how wide of a power band a given ramp will have .
the the cubic inch and use will give you a ball park of what lca is ideal .(a race 383 likes 106/108 ) too much either way will make your cam decision a bad one .cams are installed on the intake centerline so think of it this way with a tigh lca you will get done the ex. early with a wide one it will be late .dont let just the lca be da factor. your only trying to build as much cyl psi at the rpm you want it to run its best at .

cam companies leave alot of power on the table selling catalog cams with a wider lca on a higher duration cam cause every one looks to duration as braggin rights, more is better and lumpy lump noise makers . get a grid to do the most with what ya got .icanrun alot of iterations
on my cam programs to get what ya want done pm me with info - the right cam grind can make 35 ft. & 35h/p over what is generic
