Brake problem on my beater

Post by iceman »

My truck, 97 blazer, about 2 days ago the brake pedal started to get a little hard to push before the brakes catch. Now, it has a lot more pedal travel than most new vehicles in the first place due to the rear shoes being worn out, going to fix that tomorrow..

But this problem is new. When you first push the pedal you hear air sounds inside like psshhhhhh .. coming to a stop and holding at a stop light, you continue to hear that sound inside, and I can hear the engine having a tough time trying to keep idle.

I am thinking brake booster at this point? do those things just go suddenly and are the symptoms I describe match up?

Its probably the brake booster
but if you have the 4.3 vortec "the one that does'nt have the throttle body"
your egr valve could be stuck witch will effect idle and vacumm that powers your brakes.

do a quick test and hit the egr valve with something
the egr is at the front of the intake plenum with a couple of wires coming out of it. It almost looks like a small wiper motor.
